La Habra Heights starts process that could lead to road-tax vote.
More than three years after property owners overwhelmingly rejected a road tax, the City Council has initiated a process that could lead to another try at passing the assessment.
The council Thursday directed staff to bring back for its Dec. 10 meeting a contract for NBS, the company that will determine the actual assessments, a calendar of milestones associated with holding an election and a budget for all of this.
An election by mail — just for property owners — would be needed to be held by June in order to put the assessment on the property tax rolls in July, said City Manager Shauna Clark.
